Your own domain for the space page

Your space page appears at your address, for example www.ausguck-coworking.de. You set one or two DNS records at your domain provider.

With your own domain your space page lives at your address instead of selfdesk.app/s/your-space. Selfdesk then hands out this address everywhere: when sharing, in invite mails and on the poster.

Before you start: you need access to your domain's DNS settings, usually in your provider's customer area (IONOS, Strato or All-Inkl, for example). And your legal details must be complete, because your own domain shows your own legal notice. See Maintain your legal details.

  1. Open the contents of your space page.

    In the app

Open Setup, then in Presence the row Public page. Below the switch, tap Public page. The Own domain section is at the very bottom.

    On the web

Open Setup, then in Presence the row Public page. Under Content of the public page, click Edit. The Own domain card sits below the texts.
  2. Enter your domain, for example ausguck-coworking.de, and choose Add domain. If your domain already runs a website, use a subdomain like buchen.ausguck.de.

  3. Selfdesk shows the records you need to set. A domain needs two, a subdomain only the CNAME:

    NameTypeValue
    wwwCNAMEyour code, e.g. k7m2qx.domains.selfdesk.app
    @Athe address shown

A button next to each value copies it.

  4. Create the records at your provider. If there already is an A record for @, often the provider's parking page, replace it. Some providers want an empty field or the full domain name instead of @.

  5. Selfdesk checks the records every ten minutes for three days. Check now checks right away. If something is off, it says what Selfdesk found instead.

  6. Once the records are right, the status reads Records are right, certificate on its way. Once the certificate is there it reads Active, and your page is live at your domain.

What applies here

  • The code in the CNAME belongs to your space. It shows the domain is yours; no other space can add it.
  • A domain works with and without www. The address without www redirects to the one with it.
  • Your domain shows your space page in German, at /en in English, and your legal notice at /impressum. Every other address leads to selfdesk.app.
  • The old address selfdesk.app/s/your-space redirects to your domain. A poster printed before also leads to your domain.
  • If the records stop pointing to Selfdesk, the status reads Broken. After 14 days Selfdesk takes the domain offline and your page is only available at selfdesk.app again. Once the records are right again, Selfdesk switches it back on by itself.
  • Remove domain ends the connection. You delete the DNS records yourself at your provider afterwards.
  • Your own domain costs nothing extra.
